Since being formally established we have provided regular opportunities for our network members and anyone interested in this kaupapa to connect and learn from each other at our two monthly rōpū network hui, and more focused sharing and learning opportunities through monthly korero over zoom. We have provided some professional learning and development to educators and also some targeted advice and guidance to groups.
Currently we are working on collecting and creating quality resources to share with educators, whānau, and community organisations. We have also included below a list of what we have achieved so far.
We share easy to digest and adopt information, resources & practical strategies on our FB page and website, so you can learn & grow in this space in your own context and at your own pace.
Monthly korero are an opportunity to listen to different perspectives and the fabulous work individuals are doing in Aotearoa in the neuroscience & trauma informed space.
Connect with like minded individuals from across sectors & communities, and learn from the multiple perspectives about what is happening in the neuroscience and trauma informed space in Aotearoa.
Keep a lookout on our website and FB page for resources and links to other spaces that can support your learning and journey in the neuroscience and trauma informed space.
We have facilitators with a deep understanding of applying neuroscience and trauma informed approaches across education, family, and community settings, so if you are looking at improving inclusion and wellbeing through a neuroscience and trauma informed lens, get in touch with us.
If your organisation is keen to become neuroscience and trauma informed, and unsure how to go about this, connect with us and we can support you to get started on your journey. We also advocate to shift policies & practices to improve inclusion and wellbeing through a neuroscience & trauma informed lens.
What we have achieved so far:
6 NATINA rōpū network hui – These are online Zoom meetings organised every 2 months for NATINA network members to connect, share info, learn and support each other. These rōpū hui are also useful for members to get an update from the founding/managing trustee about what NATINA are doing and share their thoughts and perspectives to guide the direction and work that NATINA undertake. Information discussed at the hui has then been shared out with members as minutes.
This is also a space where NATINA members often hear about opportunities to volunteer their skills, resources and expertise to support the work of the organisation. Members attend these as and when possible, and because there is no set agenda the members attending are able to direct the conversations based on their areas of interest and need. This is an authentic networking space for members that allows for sharing of good practice and also challenges and barriers.
10 Monthly NATINA korero – This is an informal Zoom event with one/two NATINA members interviewed by the host. The guest members share about their personal and professional perspectives on neuroscience and trauma informed practice, and their journey towards this learning and understanding. Often there is time at the end for guests to take questions from attendees. The korero is recorded & shared on FB page via YouTube for those unable to attend the korero live on Zoom.
The purpose of these korero is to share information about what some NATINA members are doing and inspire others to embark on their own journey of becoming neuroscience and trauma informed. This was started as a result of financial constraints which did not allow us to embark on the free workshops and mentorship which we wish to eventually provide.
Social media content creation & sharing via FB & Instagram – This includes significant volunteer hours for content development, design & sharing on a weekly basis. This has been a useful platform for many members to access relevant information, research links and resource recommendations. An attempt has been made to ensure the topics are linked to current needs and issues identified by the NATINA members, wider education community and political issues that require systemic advocacy.
